Today would have been my sister’s 65th birthday. She passed away when she was only 46 years old. As I grow older, I am watching family members, friends, and even pets begin to leave this earth and I miss them. The memories we share are increasingly important to my life. How ’bout you? Are you remembering your loved ones with gratitude? I think those memories are why I love the song “Remember Me”, from the movie CoCo so much.
May 27, 2004, was the day she passed away , so between May 27 and June 4 each year, I have a stronger sense of who my sister was, how people loved her, and how much I miss her. As the eve of June 4 approaches, I wanted to honor her memory for yet another year. She has been gone for 18 years already.
Today is a fun time for memories with family and friends. Life passes so quickly and before we know it, or sometimes suddenly our loved ones leave us. On this day, I want to pause to be grateful for memories. It is nice to look back at old photos and remember specific events throughout each life: birthdays, graduations, marriages, religious ceremonies and other milestones. Take time today to remember life events!
As summer approaches it seems the world is awakening after the pandemic and people are beginning to move around again. Perhaps because I am in Southern California I am having more guests this summer, which is great. My friends and family are gathering in my home and I am so grateful for each and every visit.
As we gather together, my flower gardens are more colorful, my fountain is flowing, the awnings are outstretched, the beach walks are longer, the food tastes better, and the anticipations of great memories and fun times are set.
As my family members and friends come and go, I want to pause to give “thanks” for these memories from Spring of 2022. I am so grateful for friends and family. How ’bout you?
Today is Thanksgiving – a day for Gratitude! This is typically a memorable day for all because of time with friends and family and, THE FOOD. The various parades, and runs, and shopping beginning for the holidays, new movies, lots of photos taken, and generally great times happen on this day each year.
As I reflected on this day for all of us, I paused to reflect on why each day can not be like this day? Is gratitude seasonal? Gratitude should be practiced each and every day don’t you think?
Have you ever visited a special place where you experienced a memory or learned about a historical event? As I grow older, I am discovering many “special places” in my life: my mother’s gardens, an outdoor wedding spot, a fun family reunion memory from childhood, a loved one’s grave, a walkway where great men/women passed…. my little doggie playing in the bushes… What places are special or sacred to you?
Recently, I learned about the concept of #SpiritofPlace when I was reading about #water. Many religious practices recognize locations as significant and it is through that context that I am learning. Due to an illness I had an opportunity to go to Lourdes, France and on the way there, I passed through Paris, France and asked my driver to take me to the tunnel where Princess Diana died – the #Pontdel’AlmaTunnel. I was so moved to see the exact spot where her car crashed, and she lost her life.
As I grow older I try to limit my sweets, but I have a weakness for bread pudding. Every time I go out to eat I search the menu for “bread pudding” and order and sample whenever I find it. Last week in Westfield, Indiana I found #pumpkinbreadpudding at #GrindstoneontheMonon. It was topped with vanilla bean ice cream! It was good. My family members and I enjoyed it and, of course, compared it to our favorite previous bread puddings. We love to compare the sauces, the temperatures/textures, and ingredients. For example, my favorite topping sauce consists, in part, of cream cheese with Grand Marnier Liqueur with pecans, but I admit the vanilla bean ice cream was nearly at the top.
